Drabble: In My Arms

Author's Note: The sixth fic in the Shuffle I series. For the worlds_finest Shuffle I Challenge - prompt 'In My Arms'. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct! :)



Clark is lying in his arms. He seems stunned. Bruce tries to get his breathing under control. That had been... intense.

"Bruce?" Clark looks at him, confusion and wariness and pain and a little anger in his eyes. "Didn't you hear what I just said? That - this - is over?"

He starts to sit up, but Bruce straddles him, forcing him back to the bed. "Do you really think that I'd give up that easily, Clark?" Clark stares at him, eyes vivid. "Who could ever be better for me than you?" Clark opens his mouth, a flush spreading across his face again. "And who could be better for you than me, Kal?"

The blue eyes flash and there's a hint of red in them. But it's Clark who speaks. "Bruce... I don't know if I-"

"Trust me." He looks into Clark's eyes.

Clark gazes back, then smiles. "I trust you, Bruce. I trust you."

Oooohhh, I can't even BEGIN to tell you how much I love this sentence. It's such a great summary of the complicated simplicity of their relationship--how Clark is good for Bruce, and Bruce is good for Kal, in such different and wonderful ways. Love it!

LOL, do you think so? I don't remember ever using them--the basic idea, maybe a little, but having Superman say it so succinctly and beautifully, I don't think so! It's like...essence of S/B. :)

It was beautiful! It was amazing how determined was Bruce to convince Clark. And the ending was wonderfully done!
This story just fixed everything!
