Drabble: Smile

The city was glowing in the winter sunlight. The glass in the skyscrapers was almost blindingly brilliant, reflecting the sun. The metal framework glowed like it had turned molten.

Superman hovered above Metropolis, feeling the sun upon him, his weariness slowly fading away, joy spreading throughout his body. He closed his eyes, the sensations too much, overwhelming him.

His hearing took over and he heard the sound of the city, and, overlaying it all, a heartbeat, strong and sure.

Superman smiled.

He opened his eyes and looked towards Gotham, saw its dark towers and gargoyles, saw its old houses and shadows, saw Batman returning to his cave before the night fully fled.

And Superman could only smile.

Beautiful imagery, Star, comparing the two cities and how Clark draws strength from the sun and from Bruce, whose scurrying to his cave before the night vanishes is a wonderful image! No wonder Clark is smiling! :)

I love the image of Metropolis here! We tend to slight Metropolis for her beautiful dark sister, but the brightness in the sunset was just gorgeous here. The parallels and contrasts between the two cities are wonderful.

It's true, we do tend to slight Metropolis for Gotham! But its good to focus on the shining city once in a while. :)

I could totally see him zooming in closer and closer and closer until his vision narrowed in on Bruce there. Another great image!

Clark soaking up the sun is always pretty! I had fun playing up the differences in the cities, Metropolis all bright and shiney and Gotham all shadows and night.
