jen_in_japan! It started off crazy, then it got angsty towards the end... sorry! :p
Dick smiled, hoping that his anxiety wasn't showing. This was going to be... interesting. His family's first meeting with Legolas. He could already envision Bruce and Tim's reaction - well, after Bruce had done his over protective father bit, warning Legolas that if he ever hurt him then there would be hell to pay. He could see them dragging Legolas down to the cave to do all manner of tests on him, and Legolas putting up with it all, a long suffering look on his face. Dick hid a wince. He didn't think that his lover would appreciate being dragged down into a cave. Full of bats.
Before he could do anything, Legolas walked up to Bruce, obviously recognizing him from the pictures Dick had shown him of everyone, and bowed. Dick blinked. Bruce didn't. Then, he watched in something approaching apprehension, embarrassment and humor as Legolas proceeded to ask Bruce for his permission to court his eldest son.
Dick covered his face with his hands, hearing Tim and Kon's muffled snickers. He glared at their general direction, and heard the snickers grow louder. Great. Not wanting to look, but knowing he had to, he lowered his hands and peaked out from behind his fingers to see Bruce gazing solemnly at Legolas . His lover was staring back. Oh, god, if they had started a staring contest... this might be the one time that Bruce would lose. Legolas did have much more experience at these kinds of things, after all. But it was Legolas who broke first, lowering his eyes.
Dick heard more snickers from Tim and Kon as Legolas starting talking again, saying how he would never mistreat him. Dick suppressed a groan. Well, okay, this wasn't as bad as his worst case scenario, namely Legolas meeting Bruce when he was Batman, and having to deal with him instead of Bruce, but... Bruce looked an awful lot like Batman right now. In fact... no. That wasn't possible! Was it? Dick blinked. It was gone. He blinked again. Surely he hadn't just seen Bruce's shadow change to that of Batman's?!?!? No. It was just his imagination. It had to have been. Otherwise it was just too creepy.
Both Legolas and Bruce were looking at him now, and Dick blinked again. Bruce was regarding him solemnly, and Dick tried to smile, still freaked out by what he thought he had seen.
"Bruce." They turned to see Clark there, gazing at Bruce with some amusement. Bruce sighed, then turned back to Legolas. He nodded slowly, but warnings were clear in his eyes. Legolas bowed again, then moved to next to Dick. He smiled at him, and Dick felt his knees going a bit wobbly.
"I'll have to show you around the manor! And the gardens. You'll love the gardens." He quickly dragged his lover away, seeing Tim starting to edge towards them, a gleam in his eye that Dick didn't like one bit. He'd have to make a new rule, with Alfred's help: No dragging Legolas down to the cave without asking him first. He really didn't want to see what Legolas' reaction would be to it.
He pretended he didn't see Bruce and Clark sharing a look, hear Bruce's words of concern about the differences, about how Legolas was immortal. Just as he pretended he didn't see Clark's sad smile, then Bruce's look of regret.
He pulled Legolas further down the path, careful to keep as far away from the sea as they could, aware of his lover's heightened senses, and turned once, to see Bruce and Clark in each others arms, watching them wonder around the gardens.
