Drabble: By the Fireplace

We often make love in front of the fireplace. Its crackling noise and our moans mingle together to become a
sublime symphony. He looks so beautiful with the shadows flickering upon his golden skin. I know those same shadows help disguise my scars, and for some precious hours I can pretend that we are equal, that my skin is as flawless as his.

I know he hates it when I think like that, but I can't help it. He is nearly a god, and I... I am a mortal he has allowed to worship his body. Every time he allows me to do so, I relish in it. And then, he lowers himself to do the same to my blemished skin...

Whenever I voice these thoughts to him, he just gazes at me as if I were blind, and tells me, while smothering me in kisses, that I am beautiful and he loves me with all his heart.

Beside me, he shifts, the shadows flickering over this face.

"Bruce." He says my name like it is the only thing in the universe worth knowing.

"Clark." I say in return, and his smile spreads easily over his face. He reaches out and caresses me, his hand running down my side until it comes to rest near my hip. I try and hold back my shiver, but the knowing and pleased look that comes into his eyes tells me I was not successful.

He leans in, and kisses me then, softly, with passion in the underlying surface.

"I love you." He whispers against my lips.

I smile. "I love you, too." His smile outshines the sun, I am sure. He gently pulls me closer towards him, and then lowers me to the floor.

The crackling fire once again becomes our accompaniment as we make love.
