Bruce sighed as he made his way to his bedroom. It had been a tiring last few days. Harvey had escaped from Arkham, and it had fallen to him to once again find him and take him back. Bruce sighed once more before yawning suddenly. It seemed that all his missed sleep was catching up on him. Wearily, he opened the door to his bedroom, thankful that Alfred had been in and closed the curtains to the early morning light. Bruce yawned again. He didn't know why he was so exhausted, it wasn't normally this bad... well, no matter. He removed the robe that he had donned in the cave after showering, and crawled naked under the sheets. He fell asleep almost immediately.
At first, his dreams were normal, scattered fragments that would be lost once he woke up, but eventually, something changed. He couldn't move! Bruce struggled, but he couldn't move so much as a finger. Everything turned white...

Bruce was hovering above the earth. He could hear everything. He was breathing harshly, overwhelmed by the noise. What was going on? His perspective changed suddenly and he was now... flying! Joy washed over him for several moments until he abruptly heard cries for help. A woman's scream. It echoed in his ears. He pulled up slightly before pin-pointing the location and flying towards the cries. There it was! He could see it even though he was still so far away - there had been an accident on a bridge. A car was dangling precariously over the edge. As soon as he could process these thoughts he was hovering next to the car and lifting up the front and placing it safely on the road. The woman inside was shocked, but otherwise unharmed. The way she was looking at him... it was a way Batman was never looked at.
He frowned as he lifted off and began flying again. The realization hit him. It was Clark. He looked down at his blue clad arms that for some reason he hadn't been able to see before. He was Superman. He blinked. So, this was what it felt like. He hadn't realized how... lonely it was. In his bed, Bruce made a small sound of distress, before moving into another haze of white....
*****
He was Batman now. He was back in his beloved Gotham. Something wasn't right, though... something was 'off'. He frowned. He knew his city better than he knew himself. There was a sudden maniacal laugh - Joker! Growling, Batman shot out a grapple, and headed in the direction the unsettling sound had come from. He wished he hadn't. He had often had nightmares about his family dying because of him, but this...
Somehow, Joker had got his hands on Kryptonite. And he was killing Clark.
"No!" He had to get there in time, he had to... Joker stabbed Superman in the heart with a jagged piece of Kryptonite. Clark screamed in agony.
"NO!!" The Joker laughed maniacally again, before simply disappearing. "No... Clark..." Finally reaching him, he cradled Clark's upper body in his arms. If he could just get the Kryptonite out! Shaking, he tried to remove it, but it was covered in Clark's blood, making his hands slip. "Clark..." He felt his hands fall from the crystal, and cradled Clark's upper body once more. "Clark... I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry..." He bowed his head and the world once more faded away...

Bruce was on top the Daily Planet. Clark was there again. He was standing alone, the wind pushing at him. Bruce had to restrain himself from impulsively hugging him. He was alive! But... he had never been dead... had he? Before he could continue his train of thought, Clark sighed heavily. Bruce moved closer to him.
"Clark?" Clark didn't seem to hear him. Bruce frowned and placed a hand upon Clark's shoulder. "Clark? What's wrong?" Clark continued to ignore him. He didn't even react to Bruce shaking him slightly. "Clark!" He repeated, louder this time. Still, there was no reaction. Clark just looked up at the sky, seemingly searching it for something. Bruce let his hands fall. Clark straightened suddenly, and Superman was standing beside him with a blur of movement. He quickly took to the sky, disappearing beyond human sight. Bruce was alone with only the wind as his companion as he looked over Metropolis. Then everything changed again...
*****
He was alone again. Alone on the top of Wayne Tower at mid-morning. Everything was frozen in time. Bruce gaped. Nothing was moving! What had happened? What was...? A sudden noise. What...? Hoof beats? Bruce rushed to the edge of his building and looked down. The hoof beats got closer. They were echoing around the buildings, bouncing back on each other until they seemed to be eternal. Wait... a flash of movement! Bruce looked down eagerly. His mouth fell open.
It was a white horse, carrying a man dressed in silver armor. Somehow, he could see him clearly. He was carrying a shield that had the symbol of the house of El emblazoned upon it. It was Clark. But what...? Clark was the only thing moving besides the horse. As he was watching, Clark was turning his head from side to side, looking at the frozen people. He looked up as he was enveloped in the shadow of Wayne Tower. Bruce was suddenly frozen too. He could do nothing but watch as Clark first smiled slightly, then shook his head. The horse didn't stop, moving onwards until it was out of sight, only the echoing of its hoof beats as evidence it had been there. Things went white again....

Bruce came awake very slowly. He felt his lips being kissed. Still half asleep, he gradually responded. He felt the other person pull away. He frowned mentally. He didn't want the person to stop kissing him. He slowly opened his eyes. Kal was hovering over him, smiling. What...?
"Kal? What are you doi... wearing?"Bruce's voice was sleepy at first, but lurched quickly into awareness as he saw that Kal was wearing the armor from his dream.
"It's... a long story." Kal said.
Bruce narrowed his eyes. "Tell me the short version - for now."
Kal blushed deeply and looked away. "We were recast as Sleeping Beauty with you as the princess and me as the prince." Bruce could barely hear the quietly spoken explanation. He stared at Kal. Kal blushed even deeper, if it was possible. His dreams... Bruce tilted his head. He had been an idiot. He moved forward before he could talk himself out of doing this, and captured Kal's lips in a passionate kiss. Kal gasped before moaning into the kiss, and lowered Bruce back to the mattress. He pulled Kal even closer. He did, after all, have a lot of time to make up for.
