The night sky gleamed. There was no moon tonight, nothing to detract from the beauty of the stars. They looked so fragile, like the merest breath too hard would make them scatter away. But, of course, they would not. They were millions and billions of miles away, each one more powerful than anything on earth. Maybe even anything in the universe.
Many of the stars were already dead, and yet, their light remained...
Bruce closed his eyes. He could almost still feel Clark’s lips upon his own, their breath mingling for a brief instant, lighter than a butterfly’s wing, than the touch of a ghost...
The stars shone palely above him. But not the star he yearned for. Not his Kal-El.
Bruce closed his eyes again, and turned away from the stars.
