Pieter smiled as he saw the JSA Headquarters finally come into view. It was good to be home.

He sighed softly. The building had changed from the one he had first known - numerous fights and battles has seen to that. But they had always rebuilt. They always would. A little wiser, a little stronger than before.

It wasn't the building that mattered, after all. It was just bricks and mortar. The real home of the JSA was wherever it's members were, past or present, or even future. The rest didn't matter.

Smiling again, Pieter opened the door his home.

Pieter walked into the kitchen of the JSA Headquarters in search of coffee. Perched on his shoulder was a wide awake Charlie. He was apparently feeling talkative tonight, as all evening Pieter's ears had been full of hoots and the sound of flapping wings.

He was starting to suspect that Charlie had somehow ingested coffee, though in truth that was rather frightening to contemplate.

Pieter's reached for two cups, then filled them with newly brewed coffee, experienced hands making it just the way it was most liked. Smiling to himself, he left the kitchen, carefully turning off the light.

It had been a long night, but he knew he wasn't the only one awake and working. Smile increasing, Pieter went in search of Michael.

He remembered taking his oath. That he would never kill, never us his knowledge to harm others.

He had held to that oath, though he knew what others said after the terrible accident that had killed an innocent girl.

And how many others had he failed? They had come to him because they believed he could save them. He tried. But he couldn't save them all, not all the time. But wasn't that breaking his oath, in a way?

Maybe even worse, it was breaking his oath to God.

After a while, he wondered who he was trying to convince more - those around him, or himself.

Red on his hands. Pieter didn't think that it would ever come off.
