The Nice Man was petting him, scratching at his neck. Charlie closed his eyes in bliss, his body bowing. He firmly told The Nice Man to not stop.
The Nice Man was talking to him, using the words that were different to what everyone else used. Charlie had heard the Human With The Not-Birds talking to The Nice Man with them a few times. Maybe it was a courtship ritual? Charlie hoped so. The Nice Man deserved to be Happy!
The scratching and petting stopped. It took Charlie a few moments to realize this, that the blissful feeling was going away. He slowly opened his eyes and straightened up, moving his wings a little. Why had The Nice Man stopped? Charlie had told him not to!
The Nice Man was looking at him, smiling. Charlie looked back and The Nice Man tilted his head before petting him again.
Charlie returned to his state of bliss. Until he heard another voice. The Human With The Not-Birds!
The petting stopped again. Charlie flapped his wings and The Nice Man immediately started petting him again.
Charlie loved The Nice Man.
He closed his eyes and The Nice Man and The Human With The Not-Birds started talking to each other. Charlie rustled his wings slightly. As long as The Nice Man carried on petting him (and the Not-Birds behaved themselves) everything was right in Charlie's world.
