Author's Note: For the [livejournal.com profile] worlds_finest Gift Exchange! For the prompt F32: Out of the blue, Bruce asks Clark to marry him. Happy ending please! (bonus: They are friends (or at least Clark thinks so) and have not even kissed.) I'm not sure if this fits, but I hope the person who requested it likes it! Also, it's unbetaed, so point and I shall correct.

It was a long and boring stakeout. Even for him. Bruce sighed, which earned a quirked eyebrow from Kal, who then gave him an amused smile as he proceeded to straighten his cape out. Again. Bruce sighed once more. Really, he shouldn't be moaning, since every member of the Justice League was also on stakeout, and he had been placed with Kal, not... Wally.

But it was still boring. And tiring, since he had been fresh from a case in Gotham when the Justice League had called him in, needing his detective skills. Kal shifted beside him, cape rippling, and Bruce felt a impish smile tug at his mouth. He tilted his head, looking at his companion.

"Marry me?"

Kal turned to look at him, eyebrow raised. There was a sudden, almost deathly silence in the comm links as every member of the Justice League heard what Batman had just said.

Kal nodded slowly, then a grin spread across his face. "Okay."

Bruce nodded, and turned to look forward again, a smile on his face. Kal mirrored his movements. Batman heard their teammates mouths dropping open.

"How does next week sound to you?" Bruce calmly asked Kal.

Kal looked skywards for a second, clearly thinking, then returned his gaze to him. "That should be fine. Can it all be organized by then?"

Bruce nodded, smirking. "Never underestimate Alfred."

Kal laughed for a second. "The worst mistake anyone could make." Bruce nodded solemnly. "I'm not sure I'd be able to get away from the Daily Planet for a honeymoon..." Kal continued thoughtfully.

"Well. I'm sure your boss could pull some strings."

Diana's voice broke through before Kal could reply. "Batman... Superman... are you feeling... all right?"

Kal nodded. "Of course, Diana. Why?"

There was silence for a moment. "Well... congratulations."

Kal beamed. Bruce rolled his eyes slightly.

"Thank you, Diana."

Batman spotted movement on the streets below them, that man, there...

"You are all invited to the wedding, of course," Kal said. There were stumbling responses from their teammates; most seemed unable to comprehend what was happening. Bruce rolled his eyes again. Honestly. If he and Kal getting engaged was enough to reduce them to this, what would they do when something really shocking came along?

"We've got movement," was all Batman said, putting away his binoculars.

Superman rose into the air. "Let's get going."

Several days had gone past, and Bruce and Clark were knee deep in preparations for their wedding. Alfred was organizing everything, of course, with Dick, Tim, Cassandra and Babs' help. Disaster had loomed when both Alfred and Martha wanted to make the cake, but they had settled on a compromise. Martha would make the lower tier, the vanilla flavored cakes, while Alfred would make the higher tier, the chocolate cakes. Since it was just Superheroes - or at least people who knew the heroes identities - who had been invited to the wedding, they were having the 'S' shield placed in the middle of Batman's symbol as the decoration on the cakes.

Everything was going smoothly, and Clark had even managed to get a 2 week vacation for their honeymoon. Bruce smiled, content that everything was going fine. But how would it dare not to with Alfred organizing everything?

Bruce smirked, then softened it into a smile when he saw Clark walk past the room, in animated discussion with Kon, Kara and Karen. Babs rolled in, somehow managing to maneuver between the piles of papers and other items that was the organized chaos of the sitting room they used most often.

Babs smirked at him. "Everyone thinks you and Clark have gone crazy." Bruce smirked back. "They think you are both being mind controlled," Babs continued, eyes gleaming.

Bruce grinned. "Really?"

Babs laughed and began sorting through some papers, then grabbed the laptop he had been using and started to type furiously.

Clark appeared again, alone this time, and settled on the sofa next to him. They both reached out and loosely entwined their fingers. Clark sighed, contentment rolling off him. Bruce rolled his eyes, but his smile didn't fade. He settled further back against the sofa, closed his eyes, and sighed softly. In three days, he and Clark were getting married.

Bruce's smile could only grow.

It was the wedding day. Things were remarkably calm. He and Clark had had breakfast separately - Clark wanted to keep that tradition alive at least - to Bruce's rolling eyes, and now he was almost dressed, save for his jacket, under Alfred's expert eye. Dick, Tim, Cass and Babs had been in and out, reporting back on who had arrived and how everything was going. Bruce took a breath. Very soon, he was going to walk out there, and get married to Clark.

Bruce was well aware that people were surprised about it, since he and Clark hadn't even dated, or ever made a notion that they thought of each other as anything but friends, but he had realized - and Clark had too, Bruce had seen it in his eyes - that he and Clark complimented each other, they... fit. They were each others equal in a way no one else could be. Without each other, they weren't... complete.

So, it seemed perfectly natural for them to get married. Who else would put up with him, after all?

Bruce smirked to himself.

Tonight, he and Clark would come together, finally, in the way they should have long ago. Bruce shivered in anticipation. He could hardly wait.

They were saying their vows. Clark was smiling at him goofily. Bruce was distantly aware that he had an equally goofy smile on his face, but he didn't care. He was finally doing it. Finally allowing himself to be happy.

He slid the ring on Clark's finger, gazing into eyes that were dancing with joy and love. He carried on staring into those eyes, barely hearing the wedding conductor announcing that they were married. Bruce and Clark moved forward at the same time and kissed deeply.

Clark - his husband - laughed with happiness once they had broken apart, hands caressing his face. Bruce grinned, and caught sight of their family's beaming faces.

Bruce reached for Clark's hand and entwined their fingers. He and Clark were married.

His life was, at last, complete.
