Title: Never His
Rating: PG
Pairing: Clark/Bruce
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: For [livejournal.com profile] taro_twist's prompt request of Clark/Bruce, jealousy. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct. Also, I believe Clark is OOC in this.

Clark gazed down at the picture in his hands. It was reporter Clark Kent and billionaire Bruce Wayne meeting at a function. In the picture, Bruce was smiling vapidly at him while shaking his hand, but there was a twinkle of irony in his eyes to those who knew him. Clark sighed. He looked beautiful. He was. The most beautiful man in the universe, and he should know, having seen a lot of it. In the picture, he was staring at Bruce with a real smile on his face. One of the few times while in the persona of Clark Kent that he truly let his real emotions show. Those moments always seemed to happen around Bruce. There was just something about him that made you want to tell the truth. Maybe that was why he was such a good crime fighter and detective.

Clark sighed again. There was one truth he would never be able to voice. That he loved him. Loved him with every fiber of his body. His beautiful Bruce. But he couldn't tell him. Bruce was his best friend, he couldn't loose him. He couldn't. He needed him far too much. His darkness. The only person who didn't expect him to never fail. The only one who really understood him. Clark and Kal. There was, simply, no one else like him. There never would be. But Bruce already had someone to share his life with. To give his life for.

Gotham.

Bruce's beloved Gotham. He hated the city sometimes. It was always trying to take Bruce away, drive him deeper into darkness, into madness. Bruce, though, was totally devoted to her, blind to the pain and suffering she had already brought him and so many others. He would defend her with his last breath. And she had all of him. Even when Bruce wasn't in Gotham he would drop everything to return to her should she call. And she did, every single time. Clark didn't pretend to understand the bond they shared, not feeling as close to Metropolis as Bruce did to Gotham. Really, he was a Smallville boy and Metropolis had learned to accept that. But Bruce and Gotham... it was like they couldn't be apart for too long otherwise they would fall apart. Clark sighed again. Really, it was stupid to be jealous of a city, but he was. He had seen the love in Bruce's eyes when he viewed Gotham. He loved her.

Clark caressed Bruce's face in to picture. "I love you," he whispered the words he could never voice to the man in person. Bruce's heartbeat thundered in his ears suddenly and Clark tensed, then relaxed as Bruce's heartbeat did the same. One day, he knew, he would hear Bruce's heartbeat sky rocket and then stop. Gotham would have fully claimed him at last. But not today. Clark closed his eyes and let the soothing sound of Bruce's heartbeat wash over him. Not today.
