Title: The Return
Pairing: Bruce/Clark
Rating: PG
Word Count: 274
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: Set just after Clark's return from the dead. I haven't read the comics yet, so it's possible that there are some differences from cannon, not that it really makes that much of a difference to the story itself.
When I saw he had returned - it was all over the news that the real Superman had come back, somehow, impossibly, returned - I didn't want to believe.
It was only when he came here, and told me things that only he would know, that I believed it was truly him... that he was really back.
Incredibly, I found my eyes filling with tears, as they hadn't for so many years that I had almost forgotten what it felt like. I didn't cry at his death. I couldn't. Because it would be acknowledging that he was gone. That he had left me as he once swore he never would.
But now he is here.
Standing right in front of me.
His hair is longer now, and I long to be able to run my hands through the silky mass. To be held in his arms and for once...not have to be strong.
His beautiful blue eyes are filled with so much love as they gaze upon me.
I stretch out a trembling hand to caress his face.
"Kal...Kal" Once I say his name, it is as if a dam has broken, and I can't stop my emotions from taking control of me.
"Bruce." He whispers my name so softly, so tenderly, like I would break if he spoke it any louder.
He brings me close to him, to be held in his arms as I have longed to be every day since he died. As he draws me into his kiss, I know at last he is really back.
And he never broke his promise to me.
He never truly left me.
