kirax2! Set immediately after Adventure Comics 3, though some things may not tie in with canon. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct. :)
He had taken Tim back to Smallville. When he realized what he was doing, he had protested, but Kon had ignored it. He knew it was more a token than anything else.
Krypto had woofed excitedly as the farm came into view. It was early evening here, now, not the middle of the night as it had been in Paris. Tim huffed once he had set him down, and looked a little uncomfortable. Kon couldn't help but smile, even more so when the door to the house opened, and Ma stepped out.
She, of course, had seen far stranger things than Tim and the costume he was now wearing. "Ah, there you are, dear. I was beginning to wonder... Come in, come in..." Krypto woofed up at her, and she petted him.
Kon bit his lip, feeling somewhat guilty. After everything that had happened he shouldn't have left her alone for so long, without even Krypto...
"Thank you, Mrs Kent." He was almost surprised by Tim speaking, but then, Ma had always had that effect on people, even old pointy ears himself.
Kon glanced at Tim, who stared back at him; it was still jolting to see him in a cowl, not just a mask. "I'll, uh, lend you some clothes." He wanted to see Tim out of that suit, so that he would stop punishing himself, even if just for a little while. When was the last time he had relaxed, he wondered, as he led them up the stairs to his bedroom. There weren't even any protests that he wasn't going to wear his clothes.
Kon bit his lip again, trying not to fidget as he waited outside his room. He had picked up a plaid shirt when he had shown Tim his room, and shrugged it on. He fiddled with the buttons on it, now, then stared as the door opened.
Tim was wearing another of his plaid shirts, and a pair of his jeans. They hung low on his hips, and the shirt was much too big for him. Tim had always been thinner than him, but now... He wondered when he had last had a decent meal.
"You have a lot of plaid."
Kon blinked. Was that a tiny bit of amusement in his eyes? "Yeah, well, most of my presents have been plaid stuff." Tim ran a hand through his long hair. It didn't look so ridiculous now, it looked... nice. Natural. "Ma's got dinner on the table," he continued, and turned, started to head down the stairs, discovering from the soft padding of feet behind him that Tim wasn't wearing any shoes. Or socks.
They had dinner, and Tim had eaten quickly, finishing first, confirming his thought that he hadn't eaten properly for a while. He wondered just how much contact he was having with the rest of the Bats, these days. Tim apologised, but Ma just smiled at him, and gave him seconds.
Kon went out, after that, to see to the farm; make sure everything was all right, for the night, all the while hearing Ma's words that she had spoken as he stepped outside. "You look after that boy. Like Clark did with his father."
Tim did need someone to look after him, that same way that Batman had needed Superman...
Tim was gazing up at the stars. New Krypton hung in the sky. It was odd, seeing it there. Knowing that Clark was there. Should he be up there, as well? But he doubted he would be welcomed. He missed him, he could admit that to himself.
Tim looked... incredibly lonely, standing alone, a tiny figure against the vastness of the dark sky. Kon walked up to him, then put his arms about him in a sudden hug, feeling Tim stiffen, then, very slowly, relax.
"I miss him." His voice was so quiet.
Kon closed his eyes. "Yeah. So do I."
"I wonder if he's up there, somewhere?" Tim tilted his head back, and there were tears shining in his eyes.
"You'll find him. I know you will."
Tim bowed his head now, and shook. Kon tightened his arms about him, swallowing. "Thanks Kon." His voice was shaky.
Kon tried to smile, swallowing again. "What're friends for?"
Together, they stood before the vastness of the universe.

Krypto had woofed excitedly as the farm came into view.
I admit, I got a big smile on my face reading this line (Happens every time I see Krypto or Ace in a story. :D)
Kon couldn't help but smile, even more so when the door to the house opened, and Ma stepped out.
YAY, Martha. Great! :)
He wanted to see Tim out of that suit, so that he would stop punishing himself, even if just for a little while.
*sigh*
Tim did need someone to look after him, that same way that Batman had needed Superman...
Well said.
Knowing that Clark was there. Should he be up there, as well? But he doubted he would be welcomed. He missed him, he could admit that to himself.
Oh, I don’t blame him. I missed Clark on Earth too, while he was on New Krypton.
Tim bowed his head now, and shook. Kon tightened his arms about him, swallowing. "Thanks Kon." His voice was shaky.
Kon tried to smile, swallowing again. "What're friends for?"
That was a beautiful, touching moment.

Actually your story inspired me to make the icon. That was my favorite picture in RedRobin#17. And reading your story I thought it would fit to it and made the icon. :)
