worlds_finest. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct!
Bruce was broken. Deep underneath, where no one could see. There, his broken life floundered, full of shattered dreams and hopes he had once held for the future. Before the world had showed him how unfair and cruel it was, in the harshest way possible.
He had buried his brokenness under his training, under everything he had learned. So that other people would never see that broken Bruce, would never hurt him again. For he would never be able to bear that new pain, and loving, it was such a risk to take, would leave you so terrifyingly vulnerable...
Much better to let people think you didn't feel it, let them think you were heartless. Better than the alternative. Better than risking it all, and losing it all. Better for you, better for them, better for everyone.
He knew that Clark wanted to fix him, heal him, tend to his injuries, clean away the blood and sew up the wounds, place bandages over them and let them heal. But Bruce knew that those wounds would never heal; he had borne them too long, they were too much a part of him for him to ever let them go, for them to ever be allowed to heal.
But he knew that Clark would keep on trying, anyway. He would never give in, it wasn't in his nature. And so they were stuck in a stalemate. Both too stubborn and set in their ways to allow each other to help; to fix one another.

But he knew that Clark would keep on trying, anyway.
Exactly!
Poor Bruce! But I loved how you wrote about Clark and Bruce being stubborn and keeping to help and fix one another.
Thank you for this amazing story!
