Dawn was slowly breaking. Batman looked up at the sky, the inky darkness turning to a deep, dark blue, with a line of light on the horizon.
Lights glittered in the darkness. Across the bay, Metropolis sparkled with bright lights. Gotham sulked in pools of orange and yellow.
Batman stood on the edge of a building and waited. His breath turned white in the cold air. It felt harsh in his lungs, but he smiled.
The sky slowly lightened; day was fast overtaking night.
He came from over the sea, a figure in blue and red, touched by the dawn, glowing. Batman didn't take his eyes off him, as he drew closer and closer. He smiled, and then suddenly the man in blue and red was in front of him, eyes glowing like stars, filling everywhere with light, though the sun had not yet risen.
He took Batman's hand, raising it to his lips, and he could feel the warmth, even through the leather of his glove.
They smiled, and stepped into each other's arms as the sun spilled over the horizon.
