It had always infuriated Clark. How so often so many of Batman's solutions, his strategies and plans had ended with his own death. Conveniently left out when he told them, often only discovered at the last minute.

But they had always worked. No one could deny that - the man had saved Earth so many times... And then he would just shrug when Superman, or her, or J'onn asked him about it, why his plans so often ended with his own death.

Bruce hadn't had a death wish; he hadn't wanted to die. It was just a consequence of his actions.

But now, as Diana looked down at Clark's face, broken with grief and pain, anger and confusion, as he gently held Bruce's body...

She closed her eyes. There was no last minute rescue today.

There never would be again.

Oh, I like that distinction between having a death wish and simply being willing to take the risks--it's true, Bruce never embraces death, he's just willing to accept it as a reality.

Yeah, I thought it was important that I made that distinction, that he doesn't really have a death wish, he just... does a lot of things that will result in him dying. Especially Animated!Bruce! *pets him*
