isilweth who asked for 'Pieter/Michael, regrets'. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct!
Pieter held Charlie close to him, taking comfort from his presence, as always. He could hear the wind howling about him, heard the roar of the sea. It was almost enough to drown the sound of his memories.
Charlie moved slightly, pressing closer to him, but for once didn't complain more than that.
Pieter breathed in deeply; he could smell thunder in the air, lacing the smell of the sea, and knew that soon the storm would reach the beach where he stood. He wondered if it would be like that other storm, the one where he had met Charlie and discovered that he could see again, had started his life anew. He stifled a sob, clutching Charlie closer. Would even Charlie be torn away from him now, like the others?
Like Michael?
Nevermore would Michael talk to him, touch him, understand him.
Because Pieter had been too slow.
Too slow, too stupid, too selfish, being away at his Clinic, sleeping - sleeping - when the attack had taken place. And now he would never be with Michael again.
His lover had been torn from his hands, had slipped through his fingers as his blood had, and he only had himself to blame. Pieter raised his head to the heavens, feeling the first spots of rain on his face.
It was hard to carry on believing in God when you had lost everything and everyone.
Oh, he had his people at the Clinic, and the JSA, but... It wasn't the same. It would never be the same again.
The storm crashed onto the beach.
The rain mingled with Pieter's tears.

I really like that line and what it implies for the characters, Pieter having always being so religious and Michael being an atheist, how it shakes Pieter's faith to lose yet another loved one. Poor Pieter :(

I felt that line was kinda shoveled in, so I'm relived it worked for you! Poor poor Pieter, having lost everything and everyone... He only has his faith left, and he's not even sure if he can continue believing in that anymore... *huggles him*

Date: 2009-08-23 09:34 pm (UTC)I love the image of him clinging to Charlie, his last comfort, although it's so sad.
And this line is beautiful:
The rain mingled with Pieter's tears.
*sniff* ;.;

Oh, HEARTBREAK. Excellent parallel to Michael, too.
I love the rocky beach and the crashing ocean and the stormy weather. How very Portsmouth and utterly Pieter. ♥♥
Also, I'm putting my fingers in my ears and 'tra-la-la-la-la'-ing. Michael is NOT dead. *ahem*
