Drabble: Moon (1/2)

12_stories table, prompt: moon. Set in an AU universe.
Bruce was standing next to a window, looking out over the moonlight drenched gardens of Wayne Manor. The moonbeams weren't caressing him yet, but they would be soon, Clark knew. This was his secret pleasure, watching Bruce when he was like this, the moon caressing him when Clark couldn't.
He sighed, knowing it was stupid to be jealous of the moon of all things, but... he couldn't help it. He shouldn't be watching Bruce like this, like some sort of stalker, but... Clark sighed again. He couldn't explain it. Except that Bruce was surely the most beautiful sight in the world - in the universe - when moonlight caressed his form, whether on bare, pale skin that glowed, or on black armour, the moonlight seeming to be absorbed into the darkness, into the depths of Bruce's soul...
Clark sighed again, then saw Bruce move, saw another light cutting through the sky, one less brilliant than the moon, but one that Bruce never resisted the call to. Bruce left the room, heading for the darkness of the cave, where the moonbeams couldn't dance in his hair, caress his lips, light up his eyes.
Clark reluctantly flew away, knowing he would be back to watch another day.

Clark was watching him. Again. Bruce couldn't count the number of times he had stood in darkness, save for moonlight, knowing that Clark was hovering high above him, watching him.
Bruce sighed, not knowing what to make of Superman's peculiar habit of watching him whenever he got the chance. Which was often.
He hates the hope that is kindled in his chest in these moments, stamps it down, knowing that it won't do any good if he lets himself feel it, really feel it. Bruce closed his eyes, feeling the moonlight caressing him, wishing that it was Clark's hands, imaging Clark standing before him, blotting out the moonlight, moonbeams dancing around him like a halo, a brilliant, beautiful light, come to guide him away from the darkness, to bless him with his light, to kiss him and hold him and love him...
Bruce opened his eyes and saw the signal acting like a second moon, Gotham calling to him, beckoning him to once more be her champion. Bruce sighed again, stepped out of the moon drenched light, and headed for the cave, where the moonlight can't touch him, knowing that Clark has gone, left.
Gone back to Metropolis, back to the person who he should be watching in the moonlight.
Gone back to his husband.
Gone back to Lex.
