eve_k! Dick is maybe 9? 10? in this, I think. And it's odd. But then all my stories are. :P Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct.
Dick looked around the gloomy manor. It always got like this when Clark was away for a long time. He brought the sun in. Dick knew he did that too, but Clark made it extra sunny. Extra bright.
Bruce pretended to grumble about it, saying that he needed the darkness, but Dick knew that Bruce was really bright too. He just hid it under all the darkness. He wondered what Bruce was afraid of, sometimes, that he didn't want to show his brightness. Clark had said that Bruce needed to have the darkness so people could be afraid of him. If he let the light in too much, let it show too much, then people wouldn't be afraid of him anymore. But Dick still didn't understand why Bruce couldn't do that around the manor, around him and Clark and Alfie. Clark had just looked at him sadly, then said he would understand when he was older. He heard Clark and Alfie talking about it later, Alfie saying something about how Bruce was afraid he was going to forget his parents if he didn't hide in the darkness.
Dick never asked again. He didn't mind being the light for Bruce. But Clark made the light extra special.
When he saw Bruce with Clark, the light became blindingly brilliant. Dick could only grin at the sight of it.

Date: 2008-03-09 09:10 pm (UTC)Dick is very insightful here (and I'd say it fits even at his young age, considering the amount of responsibility he already bears as Robin). He realizes that he brings the light to Bruce, but that Clark does and makes it even brighter.
What really impresses me is that he knows that Bruce has light but for some reason is hiding it. Once he hears Clark and Alfred talking, he quietly resolves to always be the light for Bruce, and loves to see Clark bring his light as well. :)
This is one of the best pieces I've ever read about these three and their relationship.

Dick is very insightful! I wonder how much of it comes from just being a child, able to see what grown ups can't? lol.

Date: 2008-03-09 09:17 pm (UTC)Bruce is... a very pure, white light (in my mind, at least, certain writers disagree)

Clark´s light becoming brilliant when he´s together with Bruce - what a wonderful image. *happy sigh*
