I love the little details in all of this--the copper-topped tables, Alan warming Bruce's feet, observations like the one above. They keep everything grounded within all the sadness.

He was fairly sure she was named after a city - Madrid? - no, that wasn't it. He almost felt sorry for her, named after a city like that. Couldn't her parents at least have given her a proper name?
