Batman was limping slightly and Superman’s skin was flushed green. They were holding one another up as they slowly made their way back to the Cave, through a labyrinth of tunnels beneath Gotham.
Superman turned his head, blinked hazily at Batman, could see blood on his face, under the cowl. Batman tilted his head in return, saw Superman’s shredded costume, blood that should never have been shed staining his green tinted skin, and restrained a shudder.
“You... okay, B?” Superman gasped out.
Batman nodded once, ignored how pain lanced through his head. “Fine. You?”
“Peachy.”
And, despite it all, Batman felt his lips quirk in a smile, saw Superman’s twitch in response, as they both knew they would survive this. Because together, they could do anything.
