Diana smiled as a gentle breeze blew, breathing in all the new life on this Beltane Day. She looked at her companions, Clark lying on the grass, eyes closed, glasses cast aside amongst friends, a patch of sunlight illuminating his form. Bruce was lying on a cushioned swing, moving gently in the breeze, his eyes closed also. He looked exhausted, she thought, dark rings under his eyes, skin pale under the midnight blue blanket that had been placed over him by Clark. It was a measure of how terrible he was feeling that his only action had been to glare at Clark when he had done so.

Diana had never experienced a cold and she never wanted to, seeing what effect it had on Bruce. He had gone up against Mr. Freeze, and adding in his exhaustion, he had ended up utterly wiped out by the illness. And by the sound of his breathing, he was suffering. But he had allowed himself to be dragged outside, for her and Clark, and mostly out of a desire to not be in a spring-cleaning Alfred's way.

Diana smiled fondly at him, though he couldn't see it. Let others think he never let anyone to tell him what to do; one moment after meeting Alfred you knew who was really in charge.

Bruce sneezed abruptly, then groaned, pulling the blanket closer around himself. Clark's quiet "Bless you," only made him groan again. Diana looked at Clark, seeing a sliver of blue. She could see the worry in his eyes and knew it was reflected in her own. Every time Bruce got ill or was injured, they were reminded all over again that he wasn't superhuman, wasn't invulnerable like them. She wondered how Bruce felt, knowing that he would grow old while she and Clark stayed the same as they were now. But not the same, for the loss of Bruce would forever mark them both, Clark especially. They had been best friends for so long now, longer than many modern marriages lasted...

Well, there was no point thinking of it now. Not on this day. Diana returned her gaze to the colourful gardens of Wayne Manor, ablaze with colour and new life.
