Clark pulled open the french doors that led from Bruce's bedroom to the balcony. The sun was shining brightly today, reflecting off the windows of the manor. The sea, only a short distance away, was turned into liquid silver, the reflections coming to dance upon the stone walls.

Clark sighed happily. He loved it here, where he could watch the sun rise each morning with nothing but the unique, early morning stillness, the freshness of air unpolluted by traffic, the quietness of life outside the city, the smell of the sea.

It was something he could never find in Metropolis where the city never quietened, where vehicles were forever using the roads, and the buildings blocking the sunrise. It was something he had tired to find in Smallville, and whilst the quietness, stillness and freshness of the air was there... something had always been missing. When he eventually realized what 'it' was, he wondered how he had ever not known.

It was Bruce.

It was being able to wake in Bruce's arms and watch him sleep as the shadows covered his face. It was being able to run his hands through his love's soft hair, and over his beautiful face, marveling that he was sharing this man's bed, that this amazing man loved him.

Nothing in Smallville or Metropolis was ever able to compete with that. Nothing.

Clark smiled; the sun had risen enough now to touch him, bathing him in sunlight, like a baptism, the rivers of light running over his body turning into droplets of pure energy. He closed his eyes, letting the sun work its magic upon him.

He smiled again as, after some time, he heard footsteps quietly coming in his direction, felt arms slipping about his waist and Bruce's head coming to rest of his shoulder after brushing his lips over his cheek.

This was what he loved most. The light conversation they would now have, with no mention of their costumed lives, or their civilian. Where they would just talk about nothing while they ate the breakfast that Alfred would bring up, with only the singing of birds and the never-ending roar of the sea as their companions. And then they would slowly make love, right here on the balcony, as if they had all the time in the world.

Clark smiled again as Bruce whispered "Good morning" to him. This was all he would ever need.

Sunlight and Bruce.
