Dawn was just breaking over the horizon. Normally by this time, Batman would be safe inside his cave where the sun couldn't reach him. Today though, he was still outside and staring in wonder at Superman.
He had come to Gotham to talk to Batman because it had been a slow night in both of their cities. So, they had just talked about everything and nothing as the night slowly gave way to day. And Kal looked... awe-inspiring as the rising sun seemed to lovingly caress his form as if they were long parted lovers who had dreamt of doing so for many, many long nights.
Kal had his eyes closed and was soaking in as much of the light as he could. Batman had retreated into the shadows that were rapidly diminishing. He turned, and looked once more at Kal, before starting to head to the Cave. But he was pulled up short as a blue clad arm reached out and touched him. Batman turned and looked at Superman. He was practically glowing in the shadows.
"Don't go. Not yet. Please."
The look in his eyes... it was something not even he could ignore. Batman gave a short nod and was rewarded with a smile that rivaled the rising sun. Kal gently pulled him out of the shadows and into the sunlight. Batman closed his eyes and breathed in the fresh morning air. When he opened them, Kal was only inches away.
"Beautiful" Kal whispered, just before he kissed him. Batman smiled into the kiss. Sometimes, even he needed the sun.
