It was like a fairy tale. She was even a true Princess, and she looked it. She was dressed in a pure white gown, Grecian style, of course, her long dark hair tumbled about her, a tiara twinkling on her brow. Diamonds shone at her throat and wrists.
She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
She was escorted by her lover, resplendent in his dress uniform, buttons and medals and wings gleaming, trying to match the gold of his hair. In one hand he held his cap; the Princess had her arm wound around his other arm.
They paused as they came into the room, and I swear the whole room hushed, everyone just staring at them. Then they looked at each other, the Princess and the Pilot, and the smiles that lit their faces...
Maybe, I thought, fairy tales could still come true.
