Indeed. The comics sometimes did that, but never had that "wow, I'm flying" feeling. That nice slice of joy and innocent discovery. Those were the days.
One of the final pre-Crisis arcs, Diana and Steve were kidnapped by space aliens, who had a fondness for machines. And our heroes had to devise a divide and conquer plan, where Steve would fix the Invisible plane (he had help from a renegade alien) while Diana distracted the villains. She then willed the plane to obey Steve while she was doing her tihing, and he had that ability until Crisis. It was pretty neat. More neat was that the plane did talk and formed coherent sentences. It was quite awesome.
Just saying for future reference, should you go there.
As a side note, sorry for the comment bombing, but I just discovered the pairing, recently, and searching for good fic. And here I am.
