greeneyelove! Happy Birthday! Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct.
Cass woke up the same moment the hand touched her door. She kept her eyes closed and her breathing deep. The door hardly made a whisper as it opened, then almost silent footsteps approached her bed.
She kept her eyes shut, feigning sleep. The intruder stopped next to her bed, and just watched her for a moment, before he - and it was definitely a he - very carefully reached down and brought the blankets up to her shoulders, tucking her in. He looked at her again, before his hand moved, and brushed strands of hair away from her face.
Cass opened her eyes and looked up at Bruce. He didn't seem surprised that she had woken. He looked... tired. Worried. Confused. In pain. She could easily recognize each silent sign. It was late - early morning - but still dark. He must have been working on a case. One that had got to him. She knew that when that happened, he did this, checking in on them all, watching them sleep for several moments.
All this she could see in less than a second. He started to smile softly at her, a tender smile, but she could see the pain, the guilt, beneath it. She looked at him. He didn't say anything, she knew that he knew there was no point. Not with her.
Cass sat up and hugged him. After a moment of surprise he hugged her back. After several heartbeats, the limit of hugging for them both, they pulled apart. She looked at him solemnly. He looked away, casting his eyes around her room, before they settled back on her again. She touched his arm, seeing his doubt, his depression, and reached up to kiss him on the cheek.
He looked surprised again, but then he smiled, a small smile, but one full of love, of thanks. She smiled back.
Bruce touched her hair again, tucking some loose strands behind her ear. She lay back down and he pulled the blankets about her once more, before leaving her room as silently as he had entered.
Cass smiled in the darkness, knowing that he was going onto Tim's room next, then Jason's and Dick's. He would have gone to see Alfred first. He would be alright. They all make sure of it in the morning.
She fell asleep again.

That's Cass and Bruce as they should be - they don't need words to understand one another.

Date: 2009-01-26 07:28 pm (UTC)The BatClan must all have a lot of training in reading body language, but yeah, Bruce and Cass must know it especially, and be able to read other so well. :)

Date: 2009-01-27 07:04 pm (UTC)I suppose it could be seen as creepy! I was aiming more for 'Bruce has been working on a case alone that really got to him and he just wanted to make sure everyone was okay' thing, but, I can see why it could be seen as creepy!
Anyway, I'm glad you liked(?) it. Thank you for commenting! :)
