Clark rubbed at his forehead, trying to will his headache away. It didn't work, of course. At the same time a yawn overtook him, and he nearly dropped his Blackberry, looking like a clumsy fool indeed.

He quickly moved out of the way of the people who were ignoring his existence anyway, and ended up next to a potted plant. Which suited him just fine.

There had been one crisis after another after another, both ones he had dealt with by himself and with the aid of the Justice League. He was already behind with articles that should have been handed in days ago, and now he had this party to report on... Made worse by the fact that no one had told him it was a fancy dress party....

He was torn between dying of embarrassment, the feeling familiar from Smallville, and the times tricks like this had been played on him before, and just wanting to curl up and sleep. Right on top of the potted plant, if he wasn't careful.

Clark jerked himself upright. He had to get this story done. Right. He really didn't feel like talking to people, so, just this once, he would cheat. He carefully listened in on the conversations around him, careful not to truly eavesdrop - his Ma would never forgive him if he did!

He was so intent on skimming the conversations around him that he almost missed the sound of someone walking up next to him, settling in beside him by the plant. Clark smiled. But he could never miss this heartbeat, never miss the person who was now standing by his side.

"Hey, Bru...!" He blinked.

Standing next to him was Superman.

Clark blinked again.

A Bat's smirk touched Superman's face, and Clark blinked once more.

"Bruce?" He whispered. It was freaky. Bruce was a shade shorter than him, and his eyes were darker; his stance was all wrong, somewhere between playboy and vigilante, but for Clark's overtired mind...

"I wanted to check up on you. When was the last time you slept?"

Clark stared at him. "Uh..."

"That's what I thought. From now on, you're on holiday."

"But..."

"Don't worry, Clark. I'm sure your employer won't mind. I'll see you later."

Stunned, Clark watched him move away, back into the party. He shook his head slowly, wondering if he was hallucinating from sleep deprivation.

He must be more tired than he thought.
