Ficlet: A Day At The Seaside
Title: A Day at The Seaside
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairing: Clark/Bruce, Krypto, Ace
Word Count: 398
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: A belated birthday present for
skund, who requested Krypto and Ace having doggy fun at the beach with their owners. I hope you like it! Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct. :)
The sand was a golden yellow, under the weak sunlight. A cold wind was blowing fresh off the sea, and the clouds in the distance would bring rain, later. On the surf, Ace and Krypto rolled over and over, mock fighting; pouncing and biting, then leaping into the sea, barking wildly.
Up on the soft golden sand, above the tide line, Clark sat on a blanket with his arm about Bruce. Bruce was leaning into him, into his warmth. He eyed him in concern, feeling the still fresh pain at seeing him hurt. It hadn't been so bad this time, really. Some bruised ribs, and a broken left wrist. A concussion. He had bruises and scratches all over his body, and Clark tightened his hold on him.
The barks increased and Clark glanced back at the dogs. They were racing one another up the beach now.
"Krpyto's using super speed." There was a pout to Bruce's voice.
Clark scrutinized the dogs. "No, he's not."
"Yes."
Clark rolled his eyes. "All right, maybe a little." He brushed a strand of hair away from Bruce's face; the longish lock had been hiding his eyes. The blue was tired. But content. Clark smiled and leaned in, gently kissing him, losing himself in it. Until he was suddenly pounced on.
He fell away from Bruce with a yell. "Krypto!" The white dog woofed happily, licked his face, then shook himself vigorously, spraying him with cold water and sand. He sat up and Krpyto leaped away, hovering in the air, eyes never leaving his face, tongue hanging out and tail wagging.
Clark glanced at Bruce to see Ace calming sitting by his side. And Bruce was smirking, as he petted Ace, stroking his ears. He knew exactly what he was going to say. "I know, I know, I should train him better."
As he spoke, Krypto shot off, then reappeared with half a tree, begging him to throw it. Clark closed his eyes for a moment. Bruce's smirk would have grown, he just knew it. Sighing, he opened his eyes, stood, and threw the tree, to Krpyto's ecstatic yelps.
Ace woofed once, then went off the explore the tide line. Clark settled himself back beside Bruce. Bruce caught his hand and entwined their fingers together. And Clark found himself falling in love with him all over again as he gazed into his eyes.

I cracked up at Krypto bringing a *tree* back and Clark throwing it for him to fetch! It's so completely odd to picture, but *of course* Krypto wouldn't be content with just a silly little twig. hahaha! And Clark can throw anything back, so it's all good. hahaha! I'm still cracking up. That was just genius, I swear! :)
Excellent, excellent work on this! <3

LOL, I wish I could take the credit for that! It's been in a few comics - All Star Superman is the one I was thinking of when I was writing this. Of course Krypto wouldn't be happy with a little twig! Krypto wants trees when he's playing fetch! :p
*hugs* Thank you so much for commenting! :D

Wonderful description. And the image of Ace and Krypto playing together is so cute. :)
"Krpyto's using super speed." There was a pout to Bruce's voice.

"Yes."
Clark rolled his eyes. "All right, maybe a little."
:D I totally loved this dialogue! :)

*grins*

Awesome! :)
AWWWWWW! That was so beautiful story! I so loved Clark here. His concern about Bruce, the kiss, his behavior to Krypto. He was totally amazing! :)
You made me smile and brightened my Sunday evening.
Thank you very much for sharing this! :)

I'm glad you liked Bruce and Clark's dialogue - Bruce was pouting a lot in this, though he would never admit it. And smirking too, of course. :p
*pets Clark* He was being really good here, worried about Bruce, but having fun with Krypto. *pets him again*
Thank you for your lovely comment! I'm glad this brightened your evening. :)

I found Krypto and Ace stories on You Tube only a few days ago, and I had fun watching them. :)

I adore Krypto, and Clark throwing trees for him to chase down will never get old for me. But I love how you used the two dogs to illustrate aspects of their respective owner's character. Ace so disciplined, Krypto so exhuberant, and yet they play together so well. Just lovely.

I have great fun using Ace and Krpyto to highlight the differences in Bruce and Clark's characters, with Krypto being so bouncy and Ace far more reserved. *pets them*
Thank you for commenting, I'm really glad you liked this! :)

Heee, the image of Clark throwing a tree for Krypto is just too hilarious. :D I always love the contrast between the dogs and how it echoes their owners...and I love a chilly windy beach so much, somehow. It seems the perfect setting.

Loved it all! I like windy, cold beaches, myself. ;) And Bruce allowing Clark to take care of him always makes me happy.
The dogs were so much fun! I think Krypto is well-trained...after all, if not, he'd be a public menace, LOL! But he matches his Master's exuberance just as Ace matches his Master's restraint, so it all works out.
Lovely! :)

LOL, Krypto would be a public menace! I suppose it's just in contrast to Ace that he doesn't seem well trained. :P
