Ficlet: The Wisdom of Owls, cont

Title: The Wisdom of Owls, cont.
Rating: PG
Characters: Charlie the Owl, JSA, Batman, Superman
Word Count: 631
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: A continuation of The Wisdom of Owls. Set in the maybe-to-be-written-JSA-where-Batman-is-a-member verse. Also? This is mostly [livejournal.com profile] jen_in_japan's fault. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct. Oh, and it's from Charlie's POV again.

It was all the stupid not-perches humans fault. Not Charlie's at all. After all, he had just been peacefully sleeping in the room with all the books (they made really good perches!) in the place the Nice Man liked to go to lots. Charlie didn't like it as much as the Nice Man did. The Nice Man had to go places where Charlie couldn't follow him. The Nice Man didn't want him to get hurt, he said. Charlie had flapped his wings in agitation. But who would make sure the Nice Man wouldn't get hurt if Charlie wasn't there to look after him?!? The not-birds? They were stupid. They didn't know any bird talk. They just made strange noises. The Nice Man wasn't trying to replace Charlie with them, was he?

Before Charlie could fly off and find the Nice Man, tell him why he was so much better than the not-birds, he saw the not-perches human moving around all the bookcases. Charlie peered at him from where he was perched on one of the bookshelves. The not-perches human didn't seem to realize that Charlie was there.

Charlie shifted. It was only polite for him to say 'hello'. Otherwise he might try and put some books where Charlie was perched! Charlie leaned forward, seeing the not-perches human wasn't on the ground anymore. He was standing on a flimsy looking perch (Charlie thought it was called a 'ladder'), leaning forward, apparently attempting to fly. Charlie flapped his wings quietly, then 'whooed' at him, telling him not to be silly, because everyone knew humans couldn't fly.

Really, it wasn't Charlie's fault that the not-perches human got frightened easily, was it? Charlie wasn't the one who yelled and then fell forward into a bookcase, causing it to fall down, was he? And Charlie certainly hadn't been the one to put all the bookcases opposite one another, causing them to all fall down if one did, was he?

Charlie squawked in alarm at the loud noises, quickly flying away from his bookshelf, away from all the bookcases, trying not to get squashed. The bookcases finally stopped falling, coming to rest against the far wall.

The not-perches human was absolutely still, crouched where he had landed next to the fallen bookcase he had been attempting to fly next to, his mouth hanging open, gaping at the fallen bookcases. Charlie flew over to him and told him off. Oh, when the man with the not-birds saw this! The not-perches human was going to be in so much trouble!

The doors to the room crashed open and the Nice Man, not-birds man, the tall man in the brightly colored clothes, and the man who liked making green things appear all came running in. They came to a sudden stop when they saw what had happened to the room.

Charlie flew over the to the Nice-Man, and told him all about what the stupid not-perches human had done, while the Nice Man petted him. The man with the not-birds and the green man were telling the not-perches human off, while the tall man was turned away from them all, shaking, a hand over his face, his eyes shining brightly.

The not-perches human yelled again, and pointed at Charlie. Charlie flew behind the Nice Man, then peaked out to see the man with the not-birds, the green man, and the Nice Man, all shaking like the tall man. Humans were strange, Charlie thought, as he saw the not-perches human turn red. It was a good job Charlie was around to look after them.

*bounces* I was worried when I started that no one would like them, so it makes my day that you do! :D

I've got another two planned, at least, though I suspect that I will write more. Charlie's rather persistent. LOL.

Charlie flew over to him and told him off. Oh, when the man with the not-birds saw this! The not-perches human was going to be in so much trouble!

I just love Charlie's indignation here! *grins a lot* And his vague worry that those crazy not-birds are trouble makes me want to soothe his feathers. :)

*pets Charlie* Those not-birds are not to be trusted! Who knows what they'll do next??? And then there's silly not-perches humans going around destroying all the good perches... ;)

I'm really glad you liked this, Jen! :D
