Bruce was ill. Clark tried not to worry, knew it was only a cold, something Bruce had suffered dozens of times before.

Only a cold.

Bruce coughed, and in Metropolis, Clark flinched.

He didn’t worry when Bruce was going up against the villain of the week. But he knew then - though Bruce would hate him for it - that if it became truly necessary he could join the fight, take the villain down.

But this...

There was not a superpower in the world that could help Bruce with this battle. Nothing at all that he could do to help.

Clark swallowed hard, heard the sound of Bruce’s laboured breathing, and felt fear twist sharply around his heart.

Awww, poor Clark! It really hurts him not to be able to help his loved ones in a situation like this.

I loved the line: Bruce coughed, and in Metropolis, Clark flinched. That's Superfic at its best! :)

*pets Clark* In some ways it's worse for him since he can't do anything. Bruce is just sulky and grumpy, lol.

Seeing your loved ones suffer is almost worse than being sick yourself, isn´t it?
I guess it must be even harder on Clark, being reminded of Bruce´s mortality like this.
And I echo Bradygirl´s sentiment: Bruce and Clark as they should be.

Oh, ohhhhh. What a beautiful sad little piece that captures perfectly Clark's greatest fears. I love it, it's subtle and stabs at the heart, but so sweet at the same time.
