New Moon:
Batman is swathed in shadow and Superman takes a deep breath. When the Dark Knight is like this, even he can barely see him. The criminals below certainly can’t. They have no idea they’re being so closely watched.
Superman has to wonder if Batman knows he is watching him, then instantly dismisses it. Of course he does. He always knows. Just as he always knows when Batman is watching him. The special connection they share... He isn’t sure if it’s a Kryptonian thing, a bond between friends, but no other bond is like his Batman.
Superman watches as Batman swoops down, an avenging angel. The sky above is clear, but dark. There is no moon tonight, and Kal shivers.
First Quarter:
Bruce is at a party, a champagne glass in his hand, and laughing at something, blue eyes alight. Anyone would think that he was having the time of his life. Clark can see through it all. Can hear the strain in his laughter, can see it in his eyes. How can the people around him be so blind to it?
But then he remembers that they don’t know Bruce like he does. They only know Brucie. Not Bruce.
Clark turns, uncomfortable at seeing him in pain and knowing that there is nothing that he can do about it. He steps onto the balcony and looks up at the sky. A quarter moon hangs in the sky, not yet full.
A sudden sigh beside him, and he turns, surprised, and yet not, to see Bruce standing next him, giving him a wry smile.
Full Moon:
A Justice League mission is over and everyone is laughing or yawning as they start to come down from the high of it. They’ve won again, Kal thinks, and smiles, looking at this friends. One friend is notably absent, but then he never joins in these celebrations.
“And then Bats did this totally cool thing-” That was Flash, waving his arms around.
Kal smiles again. Batman had done what he did best: outsmarted everyone, including them. What would they do without him, he wondered, and not for the the first time.
He glances at the news feed, partly to reassure himself that nothing needed their attention and partly out of professional interest. Things were quiet, but- “The Wayne Foundation today announced plans to build a new state of the art children’s hospital in central Gotham.”
Kal smiles. What would we do without you, Bruce? He looks up at the sky. The moon is full.
Last Quarter:
Batma is swathed in shadow again. And this time it isn’t just the physical kind. It’s clear upon his face. Distant laughter seems to echo around Gotham, mixed in with mother’s screams and tears. What the Joker has done... Clark can scarcely believe it, hates that he’s probably going to have to write about it tomorrow.
“Bruce.” He has to try and reach him, somehow. He doesn’t raise his head. “Bruce,” he tries again, more forceful this time.
Bruce slowly looks up at him, then blinks. “Clark?” His voice is a broken whisper.
“Yes.” He holds Bruce, wraps him in his arms, but doesn’t say anything else. There is nothing he can say. Weak moonlight filters down through clouds. The last quarter.

This is one of the best pieces you've ever done, hon.
Each mood fits with the phase of the moon so well. And Clark's observations are so sharp, so clear.
I especially like the first mood, because the darkness of No Moon is perfect for our Bat! :)
Sad ending, but Clark is there.

I really enjoyed writing this, and exploring Bruce and Clark's relationship with each phase of the moon as a prompt. It was fun!
Sad ending, but Clark is there.
Clark is always there! *hearts him*
Thank you for commenting, Brady! *glomps*
And now I shall respond in the form of moon phases...
Beautiful insight into their relationship here, being able to sense one another from a distance. I'm also particularly fond of this part:
Batman is swathed in shadow and Superman takes a deep breath. When the Dark Knight is like this, even he can barely see him. The criminals below certainly can’t.
First Quarter:
Aww, woobie!Bruce. At least he has Clark to comisserate with.
Full Moon:
“And then Bats did this totally cool thing-” That was Flash, waving his arms around.
LOL yes, that was Flash all right. :D
What would we do without you, Bruce?
Last Quarter:
*shivers* Oh, I love how you don't know exactly what's happened, but you give us enough clues and hints to know that it's not good.
Poor Bruce! But I secretly love the excuse for S/B CUDDLE TIME. <3
And those last few lines! Wow.
Awesome job!

I love playing with the idea that there is this bond between them, that they can always sense each other, always know where the other is.
Aww, woobie!Bruce. At least he has Clark to comisserate with.
*pets Bruce* He was being quietly woobie there, wasn't he?
LOL yes, that was Flash all right. :D
LOL, there was no way it was anyone else!
*shivers* Oh, I love how you don't know exactly what's happened, but you give us enough clues and hints to know that it's not good.
I'm not entirely sure what happened myself, and I don't think I want to know. But it was really really bad.
Thank you for your wonderful comment! I'm so glad you liked this! :D

*melts* So lovely.

My favorite might be "First Quarter" because I'm such a sucker for parties with Clark and Bruce suffering through them and knowing that they're suffering, it makes me melt
I'm quite fond of that one myself, of Bruce and Clark suffering, knowing that the other is suffering... and then going to stand somewhere quiet together. *pets them both*
Thank you for commenting, Jen! I'm really glad you liked this! :D

I love how you brought all the important aspects of Bruce and Batman into these four vignettes: Batman, Gotham´s vigilant guardian, Bruce´s party-boy mask for the public, the mastermind of the JLA and the philanthropic businessman, and last but not least the tragic hero in a relentless and never ending battle against evil in all its manifestations.
How can you not love him? :)

*grins* That's what I thought, when I saw the prompt!

*dances* I had a lot of fun writing this one, writing Bruce in his different... masks, almost, Batman, Brucie, JLA Batman and then just Bruce, at the end... and seeing Clark's reactions and responses to it all. How can you not love Bruce indeed?
Thank you for commenting, Eve! I'm really glad you liked this! Oh, and thank you for the virtual gift, too, I can't wait to see what the surprise is, lol!

True, they both know each other so well. And I loved Clark’s thoughts about the connection an the bond.
Superman watches as Batman swoops down, an avenging angel. The sky above is clear, but dark. There is no moon tonight, and Kal shivers.
Dark, moonless sky and an „avenging angel“ – it fits together (and it’s excellently written).
How can the people around him be so blind to it?
But then he remembers that they don’t know Bruce like he does. They only know Brucie. Not Bruce.
Perfect!
A quarter moon hangs in the sky, not yet full.
A sudden sigh beside him, and he turns, surprised, and yet not, to see Bruce standing next him, giving him a wry smile.
AWWWWWWW! - the image of Bruce, giving Clark a smile with the quarter moon above them.
They’ve won again, Kal thinks, and smiles, looking at this friends. One friend is notably absent, but then he never joins in these celebrations.
Oh, I know Clark got used to not having Bruce there. Still, it makes me sad seeing there Clark alone.
Kal smiles again. Batman had done what he did best: outsmarted everyone, including them.
WOW!
What would they do without him, he wondered, and not for the the first time.
Nice! :)
“The Wayne Foundation today announced plans to build a new state of the art children’s hospital in central Gotham.”
Great!
What the Joker has done... Clark can scarcely believe it, hates that he’s probably going to have to write about it tomorrow.
Oh no!
“Bruce.” He has to try and reach him, somehow. He doesn’t raise his head. “Bruce,” he tries again, more forceful this time.

“Yes.” He holds Bruce, wraps him in his arms, but doesn’t say anything else. There is nothing he can say.
The good thing is, Clark was there for Bruce, IMO.
Every part of this story, every Clark’s thought of Bruce, all Clark and Bruce‘s emotions, actions, their mutual understanding, Clark’s support – that all was so wonderfully written!
Marvelous job! Thank you so much for sharing this!

I love that image too, of Batman beneath a moonless sky...
AWWWWWWW! - the image of Bruce, giving Clark a smile with the quarter moon above them.
You know, I think that might be my favorite image from all of these little drabbles. I love the idea of Bruce giving a tiny little smile while there is a quarter moon above them! :)
Oh, I know Clark got used to not having Bruce there. Still, it makes me sad seeing there Clark alone.
Ah, but who's to say that Clark didn't go and visit him, later? :P
The good thing is, Clark was there for Bruce, IMO.
I agree, Bruce really needed Clark, then. *hugs him gently*
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Lis! It made my day, and I'm so glad you liked this so much! :D

The last paragraph was sad but I'm still glad Clark was there for Bruce. I know he's going to be alright. :)
Yes, Bruce will be fine, with Clark looking after him. *pets them both*
