Drabble: Stardust

Title: Stardust
Pairing: Diana/Steve
Rating: PG
Word Count: 174
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: I strongly advise you listen to the song Stardust when you read this. For [livejournal.com profile] bradygirl_12, who asked for Steve/Diana, Stardust. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct.

Diana watched dusk falling. The stars slowly came out, little glimmering lights in the darkness. She remembered Steve describing his flights at night, how amazing it was to be so close to the stars, yet so far away.

Distantly, she could hear music from her sisters and the nymphs, but the music in her own heart drowned it out.

She wondered, sometimes, why she came here so often, why she could not remember her beloved in other ways. Diana smiled now, remembering a night of dancing and kissing and love.

But that was a long time ago, now. A very long time, though the music still haunted her. She could almost feel Steve in her arms again, and see his fearless, yet loving smile.

A nightingale sang, suddenly, in the darkness, and Diana started, lost in the ghost imagery. She sighed. Steve had left her, had died, long ago.

She would always remember him, the music of their love would always be in her heart. And she would have to be content with that.

*sobs*

What a beautiful, sad little tale, Star!

I love the imagery of the stars twinkling at dusk. Poor Diana, her heart is heavy, but the memories are dear.

From the tone of the piece, I'd say a long time ago was very long.

*hugs Diana*

I'm really glad you liked it, Brady! :)

I think it was as well. Poor poor Diana... *hugs her as well*

Thank you for commenting, Brady, and for the prompt! :)

It must be so heartbreaking to live for so long when the people you love have died. *wibbles thinking about* *hugs Diana*

Oh, you're right, this fits the song absolutely perfectly, Star! So sweet and wistful and melancholy...

Stardust is one of my very favorite songs so when Brady gave me the prompt it just came straight to mind. I really happy you think the story fits with it!

Thank you for commenting, Jen! :)

Oh my! That was so sad, but so beautifully written! I loved the way you described Diana's memories about Steve. That was so much love in it! And the song fits perfect to the story.
Thanks for sharing. :)

YouTube link ded. Oh, well.

Nice sorrow-laded ficlet, and nice use of the nightingale. It fits Diana and the mythos or ethos (whatever the word is) well, playing on the past. Reminds me of DC's idiocy of killing off the character several times over, and I will weep with Diana over that.

Oh no! Thanks for letting me know, I admit that I hadn't checked it... It was Nat King Cole singing 'Stardust'.

This was an interesting one to write, I don't think I've ever written so closely to a song before, so it was a bit of a challenge to take elements from it and incorporate them into the story.

DC can never seem to keep it alone, can they? *sighs a little*

YouTube is funny like that.

Yeah, I know what you mean, as I did the same with my own versions of songfics. And then, Fanfiction.net banned them, so I now save them for specifc fics. (And post two versions, one with lyrics and one without.)

No, DC can't. Which is terrible, as Wonder Woman is one of the few characters where she doesn't need dramatic change. Throw in the origin and Steve and that's it, really. Fools.
