Drabble: Sea Shells

Also for my dcu_freeforall Dr. Mid-Nite table. Writer's Choice prompt of Sea Shells. Unbetaed, so point and I shall correct!



Pieter walked along the beach, Michael beside him. Grey clouds loomed overhead, and a cold wind tore at them, fresh off the sea. He was glad for his warm coat and gloves, and then laughed a little. He had gone soft.

Michael glanced at him, but Pieter just smiled, shaking his head. It had been a good idea to leave Charlie behind this time. The owl would have made his displeasure at the cold, blustery wind very clear.

There were a few other people about - some tourists who were determined to not let such a trivial thing as the weather ruin their plans, some other people just out walking, like them.

It was good for them to do this, Pieter thought. To have some time away, however short. The sun tried to come out behind the dark clouds in a weak sunset. Pieter could feel its rays upon his face, and they paused, watching it, the roar of the waves loud in his ears.

He kneeled down and ran a hand through the cool golden sands, thought briefly of making a sandcastle, but time was too short. His fingers found a sea shell; a small, broken thing. He felt it, harsh and rough on the outside, smooth and soft on the inside.

Michael kneeled down next to him, their fingers brushing as he examined the shell. "A Bivalve shell," he said quietly, and Pieter smiled again.

He caught Michael's hand and entwined their fingers together, feelings Michael's almost shy smile in return.

!! There's a lot to love in this story! I adore Pieter laughing at himself for getting soft about the col,d--I feel the same way, growing up in cold regions and living in warm ones now. The the beautiful little broken bivalve! That's a gorgeous little symbol, I love it very much.

Nothing is going to make be believe that Michael is talking about Sasha in those panels! Nope! He's talking about Pieter! *nods* :p
