Bruce slowly opened his eyes once more. There was warm light and sweetness to the air. Cool silk sheets were upon his body. His master's room?

"Bruce?" A soft hand squeezed his right one gently.

"Master?" He whispered. His master, kneeling at his bedside, smiled encouragingly at him. Bruce pushed himself up and felt pain come over him, distant, bearable. His master gently pressed him back down onto the bed. Bruce blinked at him.

"Master? What happened?" He couldn't remember anything properly. He had been in a cell and he had been beaten, and it had been very dark. He had dreamed of his master rescuing him, wrapping him in his cape. Or had being in the cell been the dream? Bruce frowned. His master got up and sat on the edge of his bed. He looked at him for a while, Bruce blinking back at him, before leaning down and kissing him very softly.

"How do you feel?"

Bruce considered. "I... I'm fine." He was trying to sort his memories out, figure out what was real and what wasn't.

"You're not in pain?"

Bruce shook his head slowly. "It's alright."

His master closed his eyes and sighed, then opened them again. He caught his right hand again, and squeezed it gently. "You were kidnapped by Lex Luthor. He held you in a cell under one of his houses for over a week before we found you. He hurt you..." A fierce look came into the Prince's eyes then. Bruce shivered even though it wasn't directed at him. "You slept for a few days, before a fever developed and you became delirious. It finally broke yesterday morning."

His master looked tired, Bruce realized. Of course he would be, if he had been nursing him through a fever... "I'm sorry, Master."

His master snorted with laughter suddenly. "My Bruce. Oh, my Bruce..." He was gathered in his master's arms, mindful of his wounds. Bruce blinked down at the bandages covering his skin. He wrapped his arms about his master in return, wincing slightly at the pain, and remembered the revelation he'd had whilst in the cell. He loved his master. He loved him. Bruce closed his eyes, feeling his master's heart beating strongly in his chest. His master pulled away from him. Bruce opened his eyes, but couldn't bring himself to look at his master's face, afraid of what he might find there.

"My beautiful Bruce." He was kissed again, very softly. Bruce sighed into the kiss. He would be sold for sure now. He closed his eyes again, feeling tears stinging them. He opened them to find his master smiling at him softly. He was lowered back to the bed, careful of his wounds.

"Rest." His master commanded. Bruce nodded, closing his eyes once more. He felt his master get off the bed and heard the door closing. He still wasn't wearing his manacles. Of course, he was tainted now, even more than before. He would have to be sold for the Prince to keep his honor.

Bruce tried not to think of broken bodies and greedy hands.

What a lovely telling of your tale here.

Bruce waking up with Kal hovering over him is reminiscent of that scene in Batman Begins after he's been doused with the fear toxin and Alfred was worrying himself sick over him.

In fact, that's where your icon's from! :) Whenever I see that scene now, I think of this story. :)

LOL, it's entirely possible that I was stealing from that scene without realizing it. I know I've stolen some dialog from the LOTR films without realizing it when I've been writing fairy tales...

I wanted a icon I could use for this story that showed Bruce looking vulnerable, and this one was perfect! :)

God! I could smack Bruce for being so oblivious! If he wasn't already hurt, of course. Poor baby... Maybe Diana can talk some sense into him, if Kal can't. Am looking forward to seeing more of Bruce's past, too. And seeing Kal open up a can o' whoop-ass on Luthor!

Now don't be too hard on Bruce! In all his previous experiences he's been very badly hurt, and he's thinking of Kal's reputation too, as there are certainly rumors going around of what Lex could have done to him. He's just very... damaged. And doesn't believe that anyone could ever love him. *pets him*

There will be more about Bruce's past in the next arcs, arc 3 especially. :)
