Drabble: Autumn Day

Bruce glanced at Ace as he sighed deeply, then lay down to sleep. It was a lovely Autumn day, the sky pale blue, with high cloud. High above them, Clark and Krypto played, only their red capes visible as they darted back and forth.
Dic k was going to come over tonight, and they would go on patrol together: Batman, Nightwing and Robin. Superman would be in Metropolis, but would return by morning, and the cave would be full of his and Dick’s laughter.
Bruce felt himself smile, reached out and stroked Ace’s soft ears. He had never expected to be quietly happy, like this. But he was, and he knew just who could take credit for it.
From the sky above, Clark’s laughter filtered down, echoed by Krypto’s excited barks. Ace raised his head sleepily, gazed at him with dark eyes. And Bruce smiled again.
