"Every man and woman able to bear arms, ready to depart." He ordered, already moving back towards the castle.
I liked Bruce’s confidence and decisiveness in this chapter. He acted really as a king there.

"No." His voice was forceful, commanding. The voice of the King of Gotham.
He was great in this discussion with Barbara. As you wrote – the King of Gotham! :) And he was right, IMO. He needed someone to stay in Gotham and guard the castle. I don’t blame Barbara not wanting to obey at first, though. These decision are always so difficult. *Sigh*

Somehow, he had known of Bruce's intentions, and had his armour ready for him.
Oh yes, Alfred – every time I see him or read about him, I love that man. :)

We were outnumbered, and had to scatter. I've never seen so many mercenaries.
OMG, such bad news! I hope Cassandra and Jason are okay.

No Ace was there to lie at his feet and pet. No one.
I was thinking Bruce was going to miss Ace when he had been telling him to stay and protect Gotham. *Hugs Bruce*

fires were lit atop the mountain range that stretched from Gotham to Metropolis, lighting a message of need.
I hope Kal will get the message in time and can help. *Crosses fingers*

Excellently written chapter!
Thanks for sharing. :)
