I love the contradictions there, or, what sound like contradictions but make so much sense for Gotham. 'Broken and insane, whole and pure' is such a wonderful turn of phrase, and it describes what Gotham does to her children so well. They have to be broken to be remade, I guess?
They were Children of Gotham, laughing in the rain, more real than anywhere else in the world.
Yes. :D :D They are so true, you know? so right. And in Gotham, they are so right that they have to be real! the imaginarium is too strong for them not to be. They are alive in some strange way.
