Drabble: A Lazy Day

Title: A Lazy Day
Rating: PG
Characters: Diana, Bruce, Clark
Word Count: 370
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Author's Note: Intended for [livejournal.com profile] dcu_freeforall's Spring Challenge, but... I'm not sure if it fits, LOL. Up to Saavi. :p Also, unbetaed, so point and I shall correct.

Diana smiled as a gentle breeze blew, breathing in all the new life on this Beltane Day. She looked at her companions, Clark lying on the grass, eyes closed, glasses cast aside amongst friends, a patch of sunlight illuminating his form. Bruce was lying on a cushioned swing, moving gently in the breeze, his eyes closed also. He looked exhausted, she thought, dark rings under his eyes, skin pale under the midnight blue blanket that had been placed over him by Clark. It was a measure of how terrible he was feeling that his only action had been to glare at Clark when he had done so.

Diana had never experienced a cold and she never wanted to, seeing what effect it had on Bruce. He had gone up against Mr. Freeze, and adding in his exhaustion, he had ended up utterly wiped out by the illness. And by the sound of his breathing, he was suffering. But he had allowed himself to be dragged outside, for her and Clark, and mostly out of a desire to not be in a spring-cleaning Alfred's way.

Diana smiled fondly at him, though he couldn't see it. Let others think he never let anyone to tell him what to do; one moment after meeting Alfred you knew who was really in charge.

Bruce sneezed abruptly, then groaned, pulling the blanket closer around himself. Clark's quiet "Bless you," only made him groan again. Diana looked at Clark, seeing a sliver of blue. She could see the worry in his eyes and knew it was reflected in her own. Every time Bruce got ill or was injured, they were reminded all over again that he wasn't superhuman, wasn't invulnerable like them. She wondered how Bruce felt, knowing that he would grow old while she and Clark stayed the same as they were now. But not the same, for the loss of Bruce would forever mark them both, Clark especially. They had been best friends for so long now, longer than many modern marriages lasted...

Well, there was no point thinking of it now. Not on this day. Diana returned her gaze to the colourful gardens of Wayne Manor, ablaze with colour and new life.

Aw, this was wonderful! I love the contradiction of the beautiful day and Bruce's illness and all that it signified. So bittersweet! And Clark laying the blanket over Bruce was so sweet and perfect. The love there is undeniable. :)

I'm sure this fits a prompt for the Spring Challenge. *scurries off to check* ^_^

Aw so beautiful :)
Diana is probbly my favourite female character in the DCU (other than Catwoman).

She wondered how Bruce felt, knowing that he would grow old while she and Clark stayed the same as they were now. But not the same, for the loss of Bruce would forever mark them both, Clark especially.
I like this part, it touches in the heart...

Aww, this was great. I love the quiet reflection of it all.

So pretty and bittersweet.

Ohh, what a bittersweet fic. *wibble* As Saavi said, the contrast between Bruce being sick and the gorgeous spring day is really striking.

Ahhh, the future is going to be so sad:

But not the same, for the loss of Bruce would forever mark them both, Clark especially.

*sniff* Although I loved this line:

They had been best friends for so long now, longer than many modern marriages lasted...

*squee* And I just loved the image of all of them lying in the sun--Diana watching the gardens, Clark with his glasses off, and Bruce beneath the blanket on the cushioned swing (yay cushioned swings! I think that was my favorite detail :D).

Great job!

I love the last bit there so much.

Bueatiful peice. I'm not a Diana fan but the world seems to be conspiring to make me like her. And I always love to see Clark and Bruce through someone elses eyes.

I love all the quiet friendship here. For some reason I love Clark's little "bless you" the most. :) It's a pretty little slice of life, very sweet.

Awww, to have a cold in spring sucks so much! poor Bruce... I have to admit I doodles Clark and Diana and Bruce in the swing in a little pad because it looks.. so perfect in my mind! the doodle is horrible! lol, man. I wish I could draw because they look just perfect in my mind...

But he had allowed himself to be dragged outside, for her and Clark, and mostly out of a desire to not be in a spring-cleaning Alfred's way.

*grins* No one wants to get in the way of Alfred! And I love the idea of Diana and Clark dragging Bruce outside. I suppose in that state he's pretty much a rag doll. All he can do to protest is glare and groan a bit :P poor guy.. I really liked this slice of life moment. I love to see the Trinity together being friendly :)

This was a lovely look at the trinity and it absolutely hits true. I wish there were more of this in canon, where the three aren't always meeting up to discuss work or to bitch about other heroes.

The reminder of Bruce's mortality is another bittersweet dimension. Thank you.

Lovely, sweetie!

From the spring day to Bruce's cold and the quiet of the whole scene, to the melancholy underneath it all, this was a winner! :)
