It had been a quiet night, for once. Gotham had been sleeping; all were safe, if not sound, in Arkham. Metropolis - the world - had been quiet too, no natural or ‘un-natural’ disasters.
So Superman had flown to Gotham, had seen Batman lurking on a dark rooftop and had joined him there.
He had only threatened him twice and told him to leave three times, which was practically an engraved invitation from him.
So Kal-El had stayed, and he and the Dark Knight had talked together, patrolled together, until the night slowly gave way to a bright new day.
